On 15 August, the Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics & X Double Major Programme (ASEIX) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) received a delegation from the Beijing Institute of Aerospace Test Technology (101 Institute) of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration opportunities between the two parties.
Professor Kwan Kin Ming, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, warmly welcomed the delegation on behalf of the faculty. Professor Yang Hongfeng, ASEIX Programme Director, introduced the programme and related information about the participating departments and faculties at CUHK and CUHK Shenzhen.Mr Wang Chenggang, Director of the 101 Institute, gave an introduction to the institute’s history and strengths, highlighting its significant contributions to China’s aerospace industry. Discussions were held on future collaboration opportunities, including student internships and field visits.
The ASEIX programme is an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme that combines aerospace science and earth information studies. It equips students with the skills to utilize information effectively to create innovative solutions, explore outer space, and protect the Earth. The programme covers scientific exploration, technology development, and application to study the Earth’s atmosphere and beyond. It integrates earth science knowledge with geospatial data science skills to understand and monitor environmental changes. Students will attend classes and participate in research and experiential activities at both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen campuses, gaining a broad range of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills.
The 101 Institute is renowned for its cutting-edge research and development in aerospace technology. It plays a crucial role in China’s space exploration efforts, with expertise in high-altitude simulation and rocket engine testing. The institute has contributed to major national projects such as heavy-lift rockets and lunar missions.
